Arkansas Delta Flatlander, West Memphis

Thanks to Kyle Killough who sent us information about the Arkansas Delta Flatlader bike ride on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 leaving West Memphis (across from Pancho's) at 8:30 am.  The event is put on by the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club.  There is pre-registration at: http://www.arkansasdeltaflatlander.com/#!registration/c1g9m.  You must register by Oct. 4 to be guaranteed a t-shirt.  The 66 mile route goes south to Horseshoe Lake and back.  There are 20 and 40 mile options as well.  It's $25 plus $20 for the long sleeve t-shirt.  What a deal :)  Looks like a great ride!  -Keeli

I'm hosting a 4:30 pm bike ride Saturday (It was 4 but Chloe's swimming party at Maggie's starts at 2).

I know the Smith's and Killough's are rolling out and a bunch of other people, you know who you are, will be at Ole Miss, Little Rock or Chicago watching football.

We'll most likely be taking the million dollar ride which is about 20 miles on Saturday, plan on social time afterwards, sitter at my house! -Keeli

Kara and I are continuing our Wednesday bike to the country club, swim 30 minutes and bike home.  So for those of you who wanna swim and are preparing for the Mighty Mite July 21, meet us at the pool around 6:15 (We plan to depart Birdeye at 5:30 am) on most Wednesdays.  If you wanna be for sure, just text or call!

Tentative Bike Ride this Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012-Moved to Sunday 2/5/12 at 2

Our crew yesterday with two new members of the BBC,
Johnny and Beverly Edwards of Wynne.  So it's Neall, Johnny,
Beverly, Kyle, Jimmy, Becca, Beth, me, Jackie, Kara, Martin and
Ashley...burr it was a breezy ride but I think everyone dressed
appropriately and had water and all on board!

I just had to get a pic of Kara's shoes...this is her Garneau shoe
covers that kept her warm.  We stopped at the Colt Exxon and
she had to use the facilities and the cashier asked her where she
got her shoes at...Kara replied, "huh, you wanna know where
these came from...?" Duh...we all cracked up because they do
make her feet look like Duck feet....:)

Kyle commented at church today that his one gear Schwinn bike
gave a great workout on our 20 mile, rolling hills, bike ride.

It is to rain today at 2:30 so we've changed the bike ride to Sunday at 2 with plans to watch the Super Bowl at Kara's at least until half time (since it is a school night).  Kara's sharing her BBQ Boston Butt, I'm making Stan's famous broccoli salad and Kara's making a dessert.  I think the boys are going to try and go on a long run at 2:30 today if it's not raining.

How fun is it that Becca has had her trouble maker hound
that she adopted from me 5 years ago go to her forever home.
She got a text on the bike ride that Ollie had left with her adopter
(I didn't have the heart to tell her that I gave her number out to
three people this week that might adopt Ollie) but this home
is to a fabulous local family.  We'll have to check back on Larry's
status next time since he's now king of his roost.  And we'll
have to check on Ollie to see how her transition is going. It
was amazing that her new home drove by during our break time
near Village Creek....pretty neat I'd say!

Alrighty Chloe....she had Kelly Glover over for a sleep over
and these two stayed up till Midnight chatting, I had to do
a "Get to bed girls" several times until they actually did it...
but we all made it to church on time and that's what matters!

A giant thanks goes to Neall and Becca for hosting yesterday's 20 mile bike ride!  They not only provided a sitter but also LENNY'S!!!  Yes, Lenny's was delivered to Wynne by employees from its Forrest City store and it was fabulous after the cold and windy bike ride.  Ya'll know I hate to brag but I brought champagne to toast Neall and Becca after receiving the Cross County Chamber of Commerce's Volunteers of the Year award, and it was sooo good!  Neall and Becca, immediately returned to their hometown of Wynne to open Dental and Optometry practices, respectively, right after graduating.  Then taking on as chairmen of our 30 year old festival, Farmfest, for three, yes 3 years, and employing 24 plus employees combined as well as raising a family with Sol, 5 years, and Rose, almost 3 years, while chairing many committees and serving on many like the Wynne Economic Development Corporation, Cross County Chamber of Commerce, Cross County Arts Council, Midsouth Kids Triathlon and Midsouth Kids Marathon committees, church and many more things in our precious county, it seemed like the right time to bring out the "special champagne".  My BFF Wendy in Chicago highly recommended the Schramsberg Mirabelle Rose Brut that we all shared and enjoyed toasting the Jackson's for a Job Well Done!  That champagne was delicious!

Ok...the bike ride was easy and fun as we had two new riders, Johnny and Beverly Edwards from Searcy.  They are new to Wynne and are newlyweds and gave each other road bikes as wedding gifts...now that's a good present I'd say!  We all enjoyed the ride and the social time afterwards.  It was fun having our toasts with Lenny's and taking jello shots. Yes, it's true, that's not a typo.  We had jello shots laced with vodka.  I passed mine to Jackie so I could go get Kelly for the sleep over.  I heard they were delicious but we were off to Birdeye for the sleep over and birthday dinner for Harmon and Jeanie at Josie's in Waldenburg.  We had a great time at the bike ride and at Josie's.  If only I could figure out how to ride out there to on the way to dinner and have a bike rack on a car for the ride home from Waldenburg...hmm....it was a ton of fun.  There were great karaoke singers and not so good karaoke singers but we all had tons of laughs celebrating Memaw and Grandad's birthdays.

OK....so it looks good this weekend for a bike ride.  Kara's offered to host at 2:30 after she gets off work...so if the weather holds meet at her house at 2:30 for a road bike ride.

He's ridden in 5 -100 mile bike rides in the last year....what?  How
could I have missed this...he's been changing my tires, telling me
how to attack hills, save my knees and all....Sorry Kyle, I give you
the gold crown.... I love your skill and toughness on the bike.

Thanks to everyone who rolled out last Saturday!  It was a great 20 mile out and back loop.  I think everyone has been so ready to ride since we've all had summer activities and other things!  We had a good turn out I think.  Plans are to ride next Saturday from Birdeye at 7 am a 62 mile loop or shorter like Jackie and I will do and Monday from Birdeye at 8:30 am a 38 mile loop.  It's so much more fun riding in a group...someone always has a gu or extra Gatorade or band aids.  I'm looking forward to Saturday!  Thanks again to all who rode and to Kyle, who once again educated me on true cyclists...I don't think I'll ever be in the club.  Just sayin....:)

Quick report on bad cycling knees:  I saw my orthopedic specialist today...after Xrays and exam he said look at my knees and quads....yes, my bad knee's quad is 20 % less than my good one...no wonder it's weaker since surgery in the 1980s.  He said since I never had rehab and he said I should strengthen it...which is exactly right.  I haven't done p90x legs and back for a year and a half and I never do my weak knee "to protect it" which is NOT what's happened.  I've been instructed to get lefty back in shape by doing more reps on lefty than strong right.  It makes sense, I'll report back I promise.  P90X was ROUGH today and my glutious maximus was so sore after work, I'd say it's working.  I'm to report back in 8 weeks...:)

Wynne Presbyterian Church had church Sunday at Village Creek State Park.  Jackie had the idea to ride bikes from Birdeye to the park.  Thanks to Memaw and Grandad for gettin the kids and driving them the 20 miles!  Martin, Jackie and I met Kyle along the Bay Road.  Kyle mentioned he was trying a new bike and when we got to the country club to talk about the Midsouth Kids Triathlon, I was surprised to find out Kyle made the bike.  He cut two Schwinns in half and welded them together to form a type of recumbent bike.  AMAZING!  That's really AMAZING...when we got to Village Creek, he reported it was in fine shape.  I meant to ask him about the gears he had on there and how they worked but you know how a potluck is, lots of talk...He did ride on to Forrest City after church, which was about 50 miles round trip.  Next time ya'll see Kyle, ask him about this bike and that gear...Keeli

Okay, so I'd planned on a 45 miler (am I crazy, yes, yes I am...lol)  but we only did 21, Martin and Kyle did 25 miles on up to Winona.  Per Kyle's request, we weren't sure we could do the original 45 to Earle because of the lack of daylight.  We had a great time this ride even though we had a super strong head wind on the way out.  On the way back, Martin passed me going at least 20 mph and that really got me fired up so I high tailed it to try and catch him.  By the time I got to the Birdeye Cemetery, I was doing 22 mph and was really choking but I just had to catch him.  I almost did at the 4 way....dang it, it was so close!  Anyway, it was a ton of fun as usual!  Lookin forward to the next one...who's going to host?-Keeli

Martin and Kara were our gracious hosts for our weekend bike ride today.  It was 42 degrees at 3 pm when we pulled out of their driveway.  With our bike crew meteorologists Kyle and Martin, they agreed that the wind was out of the south so we should go to Vanndale first then come back on Hwy 1 to Birdeye.  That was a darn good choice that Jackie and I both agreed on.  The wind from Pleasant Hill to Vanndale was pretty tough.  We all fueled at Vanndale and regrouped and enjoyed the ride to Cherry Valley, we had a good tail wind on in.  I was excited to learn about Martin's Little Rock cyclist friends were planning a Juvenile Diabetes Fundraising bike ride in Death Valley.  Since I've been an insulin-dependant diabetic since 22 years old, I was excited about helping with the ride.  I think a $4000 sponsorship is required to ride and I believe it ends in Las Vegas.  I looked it up on the web and I copied details of the ride below:

We'll see if he does make the ride, how fun would that be?  Today's ride was a ton of fun, 19.4 miles in 2 hours.  We took a lot of breaks this ride, it usually takes about 1-1/2 hours.  I high tailed it to Earle right after the ride to take Chloe's BFF Bailey Bigger back to meet her mom.  We are looking forward to the next ride, hopefully this Saturday at 3 pm from Wynne.  Jeanie took a group photo with my camera on video mode and I can't figure out how to get it to publish dang it!
