Labor Day Bike Ride, Birdeye

Thursday, August 21, 2014

It's 10 days away but Jackie and I are planning a Labor Day bike ride and cookout Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at 9 am. Plan on 40 miles to do the Weona Loop and for those that want 25 miles that would be up to Lake Poinsett State Park.  This is all weather permitting of course.  We will grill hamburgers and chicken for sandwiches and have everyone potluck the sides.  I may splurge and get a Ghost River keg but that depends on how many say they're coming.  It's a great, low traffic day to ride weather permitting of course.  -Keeli
PS. I may host a morning ride at 9 am on Saturday Aug. 30 but details to be shared closer to.

Easy Bike Ride Saturday at 4 pm, Birdeye

Thursday, August 22, 2013

A MILLION THANKS TO ALL THE BBC FOR ROLLING OUT TO THE 3rd KIDS TRIATHLON!  I cannot thank everyone enough for all you did last Saturday, thank you!  A post and picture to follow!

Jackie and I are hosting a 4 pm Saturday road bike ride.  I imagine 2 distances, one the million dollar which is only 25 round trip or Cherry Valley and back 12 miles.

Thinking simple foods, no grill, I plan to save that for a Labor Day bike ride.  If you are attending, lemme know.  BYOB and a snack to share.  Don't judge my yard, after the triathlon, I'm getting caught up on the weeds :) -Keeli

Memorial Day Bike Ride, Birdeye

Last week's highly publicized bike ride...
Mark Pierce, Becca, Kyle, Jackie, Neall, Jimmy, Kara
John David (his new Specialized Aliez was awesome) and Cecelia
Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I'm posting for Kara whose blog page won't let her publish because of a gadget.  "East Birdeye is hosting a ride Memorial Day at 10 am with burgers afterward.  The route will be 25-30 miles or shorter if you choose.  Let Kara know if you're rolling out".

I'm glad Birdeye is continuing the Memorial Day bike ride tradition.  We'll need to be on the lookout for the Gearhead group who come to Birdeye every Memorial Day, they leave at 7 am (I think) and are here around about 9:30 ish.  I know last year I spotted Ted Herget on a hybrid near Cherry Valley, I nearly died (that was what 35 miles one way to Cherry Valley from Jonesboro...:))  He also won the Midsouth Championship Marathon this past November.

See ya'll Monday! -Keeli

The first organized bike ride of 2013...from left to right, Jerry
and Melissa Harvey, Joy, Kyle (hands up!), Beth, Stan, me,
Jackie, Johnny and Beverly Edwards, Kara, Martin, Lisa, Chuck
We rode about 25 miles, Cecelia had 2 flats, we lost new riders
the Harvey's and Joy had to ride by herself, boo!  But it was
fun and socializing afterwards was a blast as Stella, Katie and
Julia (and Chloe on the boom box) held a fabulous fashion show,
look out people, we have some fashionistas in Kindergarten!

Road Bike Ride this Saturday

Monday, October 1, 2012

Happy Anniversary Kyle and Cecelia!  I saw this in our church bulletin!  What a fun couple to hang with at bike rides and bike races.  And an early birthday shout out to John B. Shepherd on Saturday, Jackie's on Monday and Becca Jackson's on Tuesday...that's a ton of BBC birthdays and anniversaries I might say!

Ok, I am volunteering to do the Turkey Trot at the Wynne School's Health Fair on Saturday from 10-2.  A far as I've been told, this is walking/running around the track Saturday.  Who would like to volunteer to host Saturday at say, 2:30?  If there are no Wynne people, I can host a 2:30 ride from Birdeye.  I'd say go for a 25-30 mile ride and let's talk about the upcoming Gearhead Cyclocross event at Village Creek on Sunday, Nov. 4.  They don't take early entries, you enter the day of the event, just fyi.  I know that Adam Leslie, park interpreter, will be helping organize the cyclocross.  I cannot wait for the event, I hope it's great weather Nov. 4.

Since it's going to rain Saturday, I'm putting the brakes on a ride Saturday!  See ya'll next week! -Keeli

Road Bike ride tomorrow at Beth and Stan's

That's Jackie and Chloe in front of me almost to Aspen last month.
The railroad trailer there was home to cyclists...Chloe checked it out..:)
The Rio Grande Trail goes along an old railroad track, we rode
48 miles from Glenwood Springs to Aspen.

It was a beautiful trail, Coloradans are so fortunate!

I don't know about ya'll but a break from the heat is in order and I'm thrilled that's finally cooler.  We need rain so, so bad too!

Beth and Stan are hosting a 4 pm road bike ride tomorrow (Sunday).  Let's tentatively plan to ride to Vanndale along the Bay Road and loop back on the wonderfully large shoulder on Hwy 1, about 25 miles...don't freak out ya'll,  because there will be a slow or shorter group lead by Cecelia Killough.  I'll be bringing hummus and lemon squares as well as some adult beverages for post ride fun.

I hope ya'll saw that Olympic Mountain Bike Ride today!  An American got the bronze in the 18 mile route, it was a neat ride, very tricky!

Ok, so we'll see ya'll at Beth and Stan's tomorrow! -Keeli

Memorial Day Bike Rides, Birdeye

This is from my phone on the bike...reminds me of texting
and driving.....Kara left us in the DUST.....It's time to train baby!

We had a communication difficulty so this is our photo on
my camera when we were about to head to town...it was about
15 miles one way to work and hot as you know what on the way
back, so I had Memaw take me back
Monday, May 21, 2012

Hi Ya'll!

I want to go for a bike ride on Saturday at 9 am.  Plan to meet at our house to do the Million Dollar Road ride, about 25 miles.  I'll have snacks afterwards.

We are planning a Memorial Day bike ride on Monday at 10 am from my house.  But this ride is to practice for the Time Trial on Sunday June 3.  Kyle wants to practice the timing with spotters.  I know I have Kara, Jharmon, Lisa and Cecilia helping on June 3.  If ya'll can be spotters at the finish line on June 3 that would be great. I also need a volunteer to help me put out signs and cones from Birdeye to the Lake Poinsett State Park and to stay with me to mark down the riders when they turn around and then go back and pick up signage when it's all done.

I am also looking for a volunteer to pick up our keg at Ghost River on Saturday, June 2 from 9-3 and deliver to the time trial on Sunday.  And you have to be trusted not to tap it too...

So if ya'll wanna ride Saturday or Monday lemme know! MONDAY WE'RE COOKING OUT AFTER THE PRACTICE!!!-Keeli

**Kara and I have changed up the Saturday ride to 5:30 departure at Birdeye

Becca and Neall Host 25 mile bike ride

Another bike ride....Stan, Neall, Becca, Julie, Jackie, me, Beth, Cecilia,
Kyle, Martin (Kara at Seussical, Beth pregnant, Matt watching
the tourney and Jimmy out with the flu)

Becca's Schwinn road bike

Just the beginning of one of the hardest rides we've done in a long time,
the wind picked up at Hwy 306 near Colt and nearly blew us all down.
On Hwy 1 coming back from Colt, there was a 15-20 mph north wind,
it was rough, rough, rough....

Linton, Whit, Chloe pushing Stella

Rose enjoying the party on her turf

On the way home from the bike ride, Chloe and I were mesmerized by
the size and color of the moon.  We stopped on the bay road to take
photographs, Chloe took this one while the car was parked.  This morning
we found out that the moon was a Super Moon, the closest the moon's
been to the earth in 18 years.
Saturday, March 19, 2011

A giant thank you to Beth, Neall and Becca for hosting yesterday's bike ride.  (Jimmy was on his 2nd day of high fever flu)  It was a perfect day for bike riding and a perfect evening for a cookout.   Except for the wind that came up out of nowhere half way through the ride.  We took it from Wynne west to Hwy 284 and north to Hwy 306 to Colt.  At Colt that wind came up and was a challenge all the way back to Wynne.  In fact, I tried to draft off Martin but his pace was too swift.  Kyle came up and let me draft in that 15-20 mph north wind and then he went back to assist Beth, Cecilia and Julie back to town.  I had to have Jackie hold my bike so I could get off.  My legs were so stiff and sore afterwards.

Beth, Neall and Becca grilled hamburgers out for everyone, they were really good.  Becca also made the best brussels sprouts with bacon, I couldn't keep my hands out of them.  There were quesadillas, dips and cookies.  The hit of the desserts was Becca's ice cream machine.  The kids loved it and drained it fast.  It was a beautiful day for a bike ride and cookout.  Thanks for hosting Becca, Neall and Beth!

Who's hosting this week??
