Road Bike Ride this Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Bradshaw's

The first organized bike ride of 2013...from left to right, Jerry
and Melissa Harvey, Joy, Kyle (hands up!), Beth, Stan, me,
Jackie, Johnny and Beverly Edwards, Kara, Martin, Lisa, Chuck
We rode about 25 miles, Cecelia had 2 flats, we lost new riders
the Harvey's and Joy had to ride by herself, boo!  But it was
fun and socializing afterwards was a blast as Stella, Katie and
Julia (and Chloe on the boom box) held a fabulous fashion show,
look out people, we have some fashionistas in Kindergarten!

Boston Marathon Bombing

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Wow, I cannot imagine that someone would bomb a running event.  As Jackie, Chloe and I watched the news last night, we couldn't believe it.  I said I was surprised it hadn't happened at other events when Jackie reminded me there are bag checks and security personnel at football, basketball and I assume baseball games.  But there's no security at a running, cycling, track, soccer or triathlon events ever, or at least that I know of.  Jackie sent this article to me today from a writer from Sports Illustrated who took his 7 year old daughter to the Boston Marathon last year.  It's a well written and moving article.  See for yourself: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/20130415/steve-rushin-boston-daughter-special-day/

There are three victims from the bombing so far, one of which was an 8 year old boy at the finish line with his family.  It's so sad and disgusting.  Violence has no place at a sporting event.  If you don't like something, this isn't the way to show it.  I'm disgusted and crazy mad what this sets up for other events.  In fact, Jackie and I both received an update on the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon set for a week from Sunday on April 28th.  We ran its half in 2009.  They updated their security efforts for their race in honor of the Oklahoma City Bombings that took place in 1995.  My mother was at home and felt the bomb in Edmond which is 20 miles north of the downtown area where 169 were killed including 19 children and injured 680 people.  Here's the link to the race a week from Sunday: http://www.okcmarathon.com/

Here's the Huffington Post article from this afternoon: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/16/fbi-boston-marathon-bombing-investigation_n_3089106.html

Road Bike Ride this Saturday, April 13, 2013

Monday, April 8, 2013

We're hosting a bike ride this Saturday at 4:30 pm (WE HAD A TIME CHANGE)...I have 2 sitters lined up for everyone to share.  It's predicted to be a splendid weekend, high of 60 on Saturday.  Kara and I've talked about doing the million dollar road loop, about 25 miles which should be great to get all our feet wet, so to speak.  I'm ready to do the Weona ride but I don't wanna scare anyone off (it's only 35 miles).  Plan to cook out with us afterwards. Sitter should run you $10/child, Chloe's help is free baby!  See ya'll Saturday and don't make fun of my yard! Keeli
